CWT Acquires Assets of Adicom Wireless, Inc.
Jump Starts Multi-Point Rural Wireless Voice and Data Telephone System

Redway, CA - Carlson Wireless Technologies, Inc. (CWT), announced that it has acquired certain tangible and intangible assets related to Adicom Wireless, Inc. formerly of Pleasanton, California. Adicom Wireless, Inc. ceased operation in 2001 after expending over $40 Million in venture capital funds. Jim Carlson, founder and CEO of CWT said that the Adicom patents, CDMA designs, and other property acquired today will enhance the company's new Multi-rate CDMA rural wireless voice and data systems.

The Aditus point-to-multipoint telephony and data system developed by Adicom will be integrated into the current research and development program at CWT. "We are excited at the immediate prospects this acquisition presents as the wireless point-to-multipoint functionality increases our established point-to-point market size by an order of magnitude if not two," said Jim Carlson. A key feature of one of the patents included with this acquisition is the multi-rate system, which allows for multiple, simultaneous full-duplex communications channels (subscribers to be supported at varying rates and with varying, negotiated levels of quality of service. "This patent has already been registered with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a 3G wireless patent" said Carlson.

The Aditus system currently enables Multi-band wireless access in the 400 MHz, 800MHz, and 1.7GHz and 3.5GHz SPECTRUM FROM A SINGLE BASE STATION. "The Aditus technology will become much more robust and cost sensitive as it is incorporated into our Rural ConnectTM line," said Carlson. "We will have a new brand name for the product as we scale it from 2.5G to 3G and further enhance capabilities," he added.

The established CWT product line, including the "Phone Line Extender™ ," gives users full bandwidth, carriergrade voice and data over a 14-mile radio link with a self-contained antenna. "We are the price/performance leader in our point-to-point wireless market niche, and still have a 300% year over year growth rate. With the multipoint product line, we can now install cost effective wireless 'DSL like' products into that 98% segment of the rural world that still does not have phone and Internet access," said Carlson. The CWT product line, previously concentrated in the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz spectrum, will now be enhance by the ability to operate in a much wider frequency range. This will give CWT an edge in both of the wireless markets - those that require licensed as well as unlicensed spectrum products.
